Description

Most embedded products live much longer than the microcontroller they were designed around. When a part becomes obsolete, or the product needs new features, the existing firmware has to move to new hardware without losing what already works.

For secore.ly GmbH I am building a customized Linux image with Buildroot for Raspberry Pi CM4/CM5. The manufacturer keeps exclusive control of the bootloader, kernel and A/B root filesystem, updated atomically with signed RAUC bundles. Customer applications are installed independently as signed systemd portable services and run sandboxed in systemd-nspawn, so the two sides can be updated without touching each other.

For HMS / Ewon I worked on the firmware of an Industrial IoT gateway running embedded Linux on an i.MX6 UltraLite. I split monolithic device configuration into JSON files, backported the HMS platform JSON library, and connected the stored parameters to the existing web configuration forms. The build used Yocto, Docker, CMake and GNU Make.

For AVL DITEST I ported battery balancer firmware from an NXP Cortex-M3 board to a Cortex-M4 board, added capacity measurement and refactored the existing codebase, using the GNU ARM toolchain, Segger J-Link and Ozone.

I also work with Qt applications and debug on target hardware with GDB.
